  6.      This is the OPTi 82c930, 82c931 audio driver release for Windows NT 
  7.      version 3.51/4.00. Throughout this readme file, 82c93x refers to 
  8.      82c930, and 82c931 (LC, AD, and MB versions).

  10.      This Windows NT driver provides the following support for OPTi 82c93x-
  11.      based sound card:
  12.         Wave playback/capture
  13.         Midi playback
  14.         MPU-401 Playback/Record
  15.         Mic recording
  16.         Volume control      
  17.         Driver installation/configuration
  18.         IDE CD-ROM support (Not for 931 AD versions)
  19.         Gameport control

  21. 0.  What is new in this release
  22.  
  23.      This release has the following changes from v1.03:
  24.      - Default WSS Audio to IRQ 5 instead of 11.
  25.      - Default WSS DMA out to 1 and DMA in to 0 (full Duplex enable)
  26.      - Default MPU 401 port address to 330 instead of 300.   
  27.      - Dialog box will not show Single Mode DMA option
  28.      - Microphone volume out value default to 0 to prevent feedback to Speaker.

  43.      The OPTi 82c93x Windows NT Audio Driver installation package contains 
  44.      the following files:

  46.           OEMSETUP.INF - Windows NT driver installation text file 
  47.           SND93x.DLL   - Windows NT user mode driver for OPTi 82c93x.
  48.           SND93x.SYS   - Windows NT kernel mode driver for OPTi 82c93x.
  49.           SND3INIT.SYS - Windows NT kernel mode driver for setting OPTi 
  50.                          82c93x on-board IDE CD-ROM interface.
  51.           MIDIMAP.CFG  - Midi Mapper for OPTi93x.

  55. 2.  INSTALLATION PROCESS
  56.  
  57.      The installation process assumes that Windows NT has been installed.
  58.      Refer to documents for Windows NT installation. 
  59.    
  60.      Step 1:   
  61.         Insert OPTi 82c93x sound card in the system. Refer to your menu for
  62.         proper sound card hardware installation.
  63.  
  64.      Step 2:           
  65.         Logged on Windows NT in Administrator mode. Windows NT audio 
  66.         driver can't be installed or modified unless Windows NT is started 
  67.         in Adminstrator mode.
  68.         
  69.      Step 3:
  70.         For Windows NT v3.51:
  71.                 Choose Drivers icon from Control Panel.
  72.                 Remove all of the following previously installed audio drivers:
  73.                         Windows Sound System
  74.                         OPTi 82c930
  75.                         OPTi 82c93x
  76.                 Restart system.

  78.         For Windows NT v4.00:
  79.                 Choose Multimedia from Control Panel.
  80.                 Click on Devices tab.
  81.                 Click on Audio Devices.
  82.                 Remove all of the following previously installed audio drivers:
  83.                         Audio for Windows Sound System
  84.                         Audio for OPTi 82c930
  85.                         Audio for OPTi 82c930, 82c93x
  86.                 Restart system.

  88.      Step 4:
  89.         For Windows NT v3.51:
  90.                 Start Windows NT in Administrator mode. 
  91.                 Choose Drivers icon from Control Panel.
  92.                 Click the Add button in Drivers dialog box.
  93.                 Select "Unlisted or Updated Driver" and click the OK button.
  94.                 Insert the OPTi 82c93x Windows NT installation diskette in 
  95.                 floppy drive and click the OK button.
  96.                 Click the OK button in the "Add Unlisted or Updated Driver" box.

  98.         For Windows NT v4.00:
  99.                 Start Windows NT in Administrator mode. 
  100.                 Choose Multimedia from Control Panel.
  101.                 Click on Devices tab.
  102.                 Click the Add Button.
  103.                 Select "Unlisted or Updated Driver" and click the OK button.
  104.                 Insert the OPTi 82c93x Windows NT installation diskette in 
  105.                 floppy drive and click the OK button.
  106.                 Click the OK button in the "Add Unlisted or Updated Driver" box.

  108.      Step 5:
  109.         A setup dialog box will appear.
  110.  
  111.         Configure the Audio, MPU-401, Gameport, CD-ROM, and advanced options.
  112.         Choose the CD-ROM Interface Settings for selecting whether to enable
  113.         or disable the on-board IDE CD-ROM interface. Please note OPTi 931
  114.         MB/LC version has no IDE CD-ROM support.
  115.  
  116.         Choose the OK button to accept the settings.

  118.      Step 6:   
  119.         Choose the Restart Now button to have the new driver and any changed
  120.         driver settings to take effect when Windows NT restart.

  123. 3. CHANGING DRIVER SETTINGS AFTER INSTALLATION
  124.      
  125.      Driver settings can be changed after installation.

  127.      Step 1:   
  128.         Logged on Windows NT in Administrator mode.

  131.         For Windows NT v3.51:
  132.                 Choose Drivers icon from Control Panel.
  133.                 Select OPTi 82c93x in Installed Drivers Dialog box.
  134.                 Click the Setup button.
  135.  
  136.         For Windows NT v4.00:
  137.                 Choose Multimedia from Control Panel.
  138.                 Click on Devices tab.
  139.                 Click on Audio Devices.
  140.                 Click on Audio for OPTi 82c930, 82c93x.
  141.                 Click the Settings button.

  143.      Follows Step 5 and 6 of INSTALLATION PROCESS above.

  146. 4. INSTALLATION DETAILS
  147.  
  148.      The Windows NT driver installation does the following:
  149.  
  150.      - Copy files to your hard disk. 
  151.         SND93x.SYS, SND93x.DLL, SND3INIT.SYS, MIDIMAP.CFG and 
  152.         README.NT are copied to the NT system directories.
  153.      - Create/Update configuration information in the registry
  154.         The following two Keys are created in the registry under 
  155.         HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services path:
  156.                 snd93x
  157.                 snd3init
  158.      - Reboot system.

  160. 5. CD-ROM INSTALLATION NOTES
  161.  
  162.      Please note that OPTi 82c931 MB/LC versions have no IDE CD-ROM support. 
  163.      OPTi 82c931 AD version has IDE CD-ROM support.      
  164.  
  165.      The CD-ROM Interface Settings in driver setup provides the choice of 
  166.      enable or disable the 82c93x on board IDE CD-ROM interface (Default to
  167.      disabled).  It DOESN'T install the NT IDE CD-ROM driver. 
  168.      It's your responsibility to install the NT IDE-CD ROM driver.   
  169.         
  170.      To install an IDE CD-ROM drive that is connected to 82c93x:
  171.  
  172.      - Make sure there is no secondary IDE port that is enabled on 
  173.        your system motherboard or another add-on card.
  174.      - Choose "Enable IDE CD-ROM Interface" check box. This instructs the 
  175.        kernel mode driver sndinit.sys to enable the 82c93x on board
  176.        secondary IDE port 170h and IRQ15 upon NT boot time.
  177.      - To install the Windows NT IDE CD-ROM driver (ATAPI.SYS), please refer
  178.        to the Windows NT System Guide.

  180. 6. FULL DUPLEX DMA SUPPORT
  181.      Click on "Enable Full Duplex" check box and select the DMA Playback
  182.      and record channels to enable simultaneous Playback and Capture on 
  183.      different DMA channels.
  184.  
  185.      Full Duplex DMA on 82c930 and 82c931 only supports playback and capture
  186.      of the wave audio with same audio format. For example, a PCM 22.050 kHz,
  187.      8 bit, Mono wave audio stream is allowed to record to a a PCM 22.050 kHz,
  188.      8 bit, Mono wave audio stream not any other audio format.

  190. 7. 16-bit DMA SUPPORT
  191.      16-bit DMA is supported only in 931 LC or MB versions.
  192.  
  193.      DMA channels 5 and 6 are both 16-bit DMA channels. 
  194.      Both Playback and Capture DMA channels can be configured using 
  195.      these 16-bit DMA channels.

  197. 8. MPU-401 SUPPORT
  198.      Click on "Enable MPU-401" check box and configure MPU-401 I/O and IRQ.

  200.      To select between "OPTi FM" and "OPTi MPU-401" for MIDI files.   
  201.         For Windows NT v3.51:
  202.              Use Midimapper from Control Panel
  203.         For Windows NT v4.00:
  204.              Use MIDI tab in Multimedia from Control Panel

  206. 9. MIXER CONTROL
  207.      - Before changing driver settings from Control Panel, be sure to close 
  208.        the audio Mixer Volume Control.
  209.      - For 82c930: Midi mixer line controls both FM Synthesizer and MPU-401 volume.
  210.        For 82c931: Midi mixer line controls FM Synthesizer 
  211.                    Wavetable/MPU-401 line controls MPU-401 volume.
